Daffron Elementary School is located in Plano, Texas. This suburb of Dallas, located about 45 minutes north of downtown, was once a small rural area with large fields great for farming. The Plano, Texas area has experienced a tremendous population increase in the past few years. The Plano Independent School District is known for having some of the highest rated schools, not just in the state, but in the nation.

The school district has a diverse population, some of which led to the creation of a Chinese kindergarten. As new students enroll at Daffron, the counselor marks their previous city on a large map. This map shows how far children have come, some from clear across the world, to be at this school.

At Daffron Elementary, grades K-5 are taught and recently experience an enrollment growth that led to an addition to the building. A new kindergarten wing was added to accommodate the school district going to an all-day kindergarten program that started with the 2003-2004 school year. The building features a library that is situated in the center, with all of the grade level hallways connecting to this main room. The upstairs deck of the library has a publishing center manned by PTA moms, who bind books that children create in the classroom. The Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) is very strong at Daffron, which is very evident with all of the programs they put on each month for the community.

The school mascot at Daffron is the deputy and the motto, "Everyone at Daffron is someone special," is recited daily at the end of the morning announcements to instill a sense of pride in the students. The most unique aspect of Daffron Elementary is that the school, along with the rest of the school district operate as an open-classroom learning environment.
