This update was long overdue but definitely not because of a lack of things going on. In May (yes, it's been that long since we've updated), Charlotte received her masters degree from Texas Women's University. She is now a Master of Library Sciences. Recently, Charlotte secured a position as the Children and Young Adult Librarian with the Durham Public Library in Durham, NH. Way to go!

Lorenzo is searching for a teaching position for the 2006-2007 school year and has applications filed with many schools. The job market, as it was last year, seems pretty challenging for teachers in New England. Though he has 3 years of experience under his belt and the No Child Left Behind status as a highly-qualified teacher, Lorenzo has been waiting and praying for the opportunity to teach again. On September 26 Lorenzo interviewed with a school in Lowell, Massachusetts.

In other job news, the media specialist position at Best Buy has been a tremendous amount of fun and in August Lorenzo was offered an administrator position with Magnolia Home Theater, which is located inside Best Buy but a partner company. Management has been looking into what the potential pay grade increases may be (if any), which they will soon present to Lorenzo. We'll keep you posted on any news regarding either the teaching interview or the upcoming meeting where Best Buy presents their offer.

On Saturday, August 19 Lorenzo and Charlotte visited the Strawbery Banke Museum in Portsmouth, NH. The museum is the New Hampshire seacoast's oldest neighborhood, dating back to the 1600's. Guests to the neighborhood's homes included George Washington and John Hancock. The museum has different homes that each fly a flag in front of it that show what period of U.S. history the home was from. Inside, the rooms are made up to showcase the history of the home and the look of homes in that time period. Here are some photos of the day, including some craftsmen and staff dressed in costumes of the era:

Over Labor Day weekend my in-laws also visited. Ed and Tina Miller joined us for a few days of shopping and viewing of the New Hampshire scenery. We visited some craft fairs in Northern New Hampshire and drove through Mount Washington, near Conway, NH. The fall folliage starts soon and Lorenzo and Charlotte are planning on returning to Mount Washington for the view. They also plan to drive to the top of Mount Washington (there's a road--no 4x4 needed) on this next visit. More photos will follow, but enjoy these from this Labor Day weekend trip:

Well the Arredondo family visit finally happened. It's wasn't the entire extended family though...that would easily fill up lots of jumbo jets! Mom Alicia, dad Lorenzo Sr., and brother Rick all came to visit Lorenzo and Charlotte this past week. They arrived on Tuesday morning after flying all the way from El Paso, Texas. It took 3 flights to traveled the distance from the El Paso International Airport to Manchester, New Hampshire's International Airport.

In the short time they stayed the family rushed to cover all of the sites around the Rochester, NH area including lighthouses and a covered bridge. The group also traveled to Boston, MA for two days and enjoyed sites such as the John F. Kennedy Museum and Library, the New England Aquarium, and the Harvard Museum of Natural History.

The family traveled back Saturday morning and arrived back in El Paso that afternoon. Though the trip lasted 5 days, the trip was worth it. Everyone hadn't seen each other in quite some time. Will they visit each other again? Absolutely! It's just a matter of time...

and...

well...

money!

This evening Lorenzo's parents and brother will be traveling all the way from El Paso, TX to Rochester, NH for a visit! This is the first trip to the west coast for his parents. Rick on the other hand has travelled all around the country when he was part of the Blue Knights drum corp. for several summers. For 5 days the family will be together again to laugh, travel, and catch up on everything they have been up to. Look out New England, here they come!

2006 has been going well. Lorenzo was recently named MVP of the media department (CDs, games, and DVDs) at a recent storewide meeting for Best Buy. Lorenzo has continued substituting in the Rochester school district and has worked with children as early as first grade up through middle school! There was an incident recently where a student bit Lorenzo on the hand! Substituting can be dangerous! It turns out that particular student struggles with changes in her daily routine. Having her teacher out that day changed her routine and the fact that it was an early release day also contributed to schedule changes so the student, despite Lorenzo's calm demeanor, went over the edge and bit him. The student is doing fine now, as is Lorenzo's hand.

After much delay, pictures of the Rochester area and of this winter's snowstorms have been posted. Click on the thumbnails for a larger version:

Well there haven't been major updates in a while. Lots of things have been happening in Lorenzo's life. One year anniversary! One thing you may not have realized is that this past August the website hit a special moment: our first anniversary! Thank you to each and every one of you who have visited or to those of you visiting for the first time. Welcome! Lorenzo also recently celebrated his 27th anniversary on November 1st.

Waiting for pictures of New Hampshire? The wait is going to be a little longer for a good reason. Lorenzo has had one crazy move out of Texas and has written about it. To find out more, read The Move to New Hampshire by Lorenzo Arredondo.
