This photo shows Mr. Arredondo’s class lunch count system. This system was devised by Mr. Arredondo’s first year students during the 2002-2003 school year. The fourth graders that year had trouble ordering lunch for two months. The students were often ordering the wrong item or ordering lunch twice. Mr. Arredondo grouped the students and allowed them to come up with plans for fixing the situation and then the class voted for one of the suggestions after the groups shared their ideas. This was the winning system that proved effective. Every student drew a picture of themselves to serve as a lunch count magnet. The kids then move their magnet each day to the box of the food item of their choice. Fourth graders drew themselves doing something they enjoy doing, while second graders were given the task of drawing themselves in their future career.
