Happy Thanksgiving!

The fall foliage trip to Mount Washington in northern New Hampshire is complete. Charlotte and I drove up and took many photographs, some of which I wanted to share with you today. There is news on the teaching interview, more on that in a second though. Here are photos of the fall foliage in New Hampshire. Now about the teaching interview…there’s a lot to be thankful this Thanksgiving. On October 25 I was hired by the Lowell Community Charter Public School in Lowell, MA. The position was to be an acceleration teacher, who helps academically struggling students. A few days later on my birthday, November 1, I was instead named the full classroom teacher for 7th grade math and science! There are many challenges I’ve been facing, having been thrown into the difficult task of turning around a classroom that was out of control. The students had become accustomed to not having rules enforced or being held accountable for not doing their assignments. The students were frustrated. The previous teacher was frustrated.

Now, at the end of what is roughly my third week with the class, I do feel things are coming around. Still, more challenges remain. Students face rigorous state exams in the spring that they are grossly unprepared for. I like the challenge ahead of me and will work hard to make sure that I’ve done everything I can to help these students! Teaching again is definitely one big reason to be thankful!
